One of the funnest
things we did was
go to downtown
Akron to see the
Christmas window
displays that two
department stores
would decorate every year.
made it magical with
new displays and
animation every
Christmas.
I liked walking on
the sidewalk to get
a close-up view.
Both stores are gone now
and I haven't been
downtown in many years.
I'm glad I have the memories.
Merry Christmas to all!

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas. I think they would have had downtown Christmas window shopping, when I was young. But, when you are poor, and else, you... don't go. Still, I am happy you have good memories. I'll never begrudge those.
I like the idea. Who knows, maybe, with some changes, which will come no matter what, these things might return. Either that or they will be gone for... a very long time.
I'd love to see the tradition come back.
The windows weren't really for shopping. Nothing in the windows was for sale.
Just really pretty and creative Christmas scenes. Animated Santas, elves and trains rolling through the hillsides.
I grew up in a small town and we didn’t have a department store, just the Ward’s and Penney’s catalog.
When the kids were little we went to downtown Indy a few times to see the Christmas displays at Ayers and Lazarus department stores before the were bought up by Macy’s and closed.
The malls ruined downtowns for lots of cities.
