hey...where'd my comment go? Oh well, here's a different take on it... Doug stories. Folks'll be sitting around playing cards and suddenly a rash of Doug stories pop out...how he would read his mail while driving a great big old dump truck....how he got stuck on the ice and snow in somebody's yard and ripped up a couple of really good bushes and most of the front yard getting unstuck (same big ol dump truck...)....how he would promise everybody to meet them and go help do something but would rarely show up.... I kind'a remember him as someone trhat would make promises to everyone because he liked them all, but, when the day came to do one thing (out of four or five promises) that's all he would do. So, at best folks could say he may have overextended himself. Me? I figure he was a good friend even if he didn't always show up.
That's my Doug story, too, attached to the fact that I'm living here because he didn't show up at Steve's some 21 years ago.

I still say, don't make a promise you can't keep. Irresponsible and sometimes, cruel.
