Have you seen Harvey?...

"I've wrestled with reality for 35 years, Doctor,
and I'm happy to state I finally won out over it."
Elwood P. Dowd (Jimmy Stewart) in Harvey, 1950.

To see some trailers, go here.

"Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say,
'In this world, Elwood, you must be'--she always called
me Elwood-- 'In this world, Elwood, you must be
oh so smart or oh so pleasant.' Well, for years I was smart.
I recommend pleasant. You may quote me."
Elwood P. Dowd (Jimmy Stewart) in Harvey, 1950.

Best.Movie.Ever.

The movie offers the only choices we really have. From what I am gathering from Chesterton, the reason men should fight feminism isn't just because of the obvious reasons. But as much because feminism fights to bring women into the hard world that Elwood decided not to enter. Something about needing half of our populace to not be in the hard cruel world, and notedly activated by it as he would be without Harvey. Feminism isn't so much a victory for women as it is a surrendering of women to man's ways.

I do love that movie. I just don't like what it means. I always wanted to be an Elwood, the world just didn't let me be so. I think?

Foam, it's been at the top of my list for years. And, I always have to chuckle at the reference to Akron being the shrink's dream vacay. ha.
(Glad you're out of the way of the storm.)

Doom, it is because women were at the mercy of men's ways that feminism took hold. Women were listed as property, right up there with sheep and tools. Have some women gone beyond the right to vote and equal pay for equal work and the right to have control of their body? Of course. We've only had about 90 years to work out the kinks, to overcome the thousands of years of shit treatment. With luck and intelligent men, we'll get there.
All the times I've watched this movie, I didn't see feminism as a major issue in it.

One of the best movies ever.

I missed the feminism part too.

Like I always say, sometimes a movie (or book or play or yes, even a cigar) is just a movie (etc.). There does not need to be a deeper meaning. It is OK just to be entertained.

pleasant OR smart...
well, ok.
But, it's also as useful to be drunk.

And sometimes it is best to be pleasantly smart, sober and seeing the worlds as it truly is..........and having the money and time to enjoy it anyway.
