Sadly mistaken...

and I said
I would stay.
and I said
I would wait.
and I said
I would love forever.
that may have been
what did me in.

Hmmm........

I understand the sentiment.

Jean, you have a good way with so few words. Talent.....

Words have power.......over ourselves .....as well as......even more than others. We believe at the time....unless we consciously lie....and are resistant to changing that belief....even beyond indications otherwise..
And it's a good thing....it means we're open to love.
Trust me........building a shell around yourself and shutting out feelings is in the long run more damaging......I'm proof.

I'm not sure, anymore, that promising 'forever' is such a good thing.
The shell is pretty much complete... doesn't seem to stop the feelings inside, but is working pretty well for not letting any get in.

one can only wait on the shelf so long. . the expiration date approaches. . a stranger approaches. . and you hope some kid will knock over the display so they won't grab you.

You can love forever.

Being IN love forever is an entirely different animal...

I think it's mostly a fantasy some people are able to maintain better than others.

I like the concept of love being more an act than a feeling.

Our feelings ebb and flow over time. That's natural.

But if they fall into one of those troughs? Carry on with respect and caring, evidenced, by the way you treat that person, rather than by the way you feel emotionally towards them.

If you didn't respect and care for them in the first place, it was not a fitting relationship.
