this night sky has a
royal blue satin sheen.
the face on the full moon
is laughing.
he's been longer than
we will ever be.
I cannot see the wind
that pushes hard against
clusters of clouds, glowing
iridescent edges and
pink-gray bottoms,
southward
between here and him.
tiny glitter-stars scattered
behind him, the only
company he keeps
'cept for me.
smiling thanks, I ask him
can you tell?
I remembered
to look up.

That was great, and the moon is awesome! I saw it bright in the sky before sundown on Friday, looking like a giant golfball, and I just took to think how *strange* and wonderful it is that there's this orb that always sits there, in space, just kind of looking at us. Somehow, I always feel better when it's closer. When Teresa and I drove to Tennessee last month, we saw the moon over the mountains and it was HUGE and orange, and looked like if we climbed to the top of the mountain, we could actually step off the summit and right onto the moon. It was super close. And quite breathtaking.
Erica - hmmmm... sounds like beautiful blog fodder, right there.
For you, that is :)
(the 'golfball' image is choice!)
"It was super close."
Actually (poetically speaking, this is a cooler of a remark) the moon isn't any closer when it's on the horizon than it is later in the night when viewed farther up in the sky. And it really isn't any "bigger". It's a trick of the eye caused by a lack of objects nearby that makes it appear smaller later on.
But yeah, great blog and poetry fodder.
"pink-gray bottoms"
Sounds like two elderly folks prancing around under the moonlight bare naked....
This is a GOOD thing.
Jean, this is so good!
Curiously, I never think of the man in the moon, as it's always a "she" to me, a voyaging ship of the sky.
Hmmm... The Moon... Luna... Lunatic... The moon has always played a major part in humanity's psyche, emotional and spiritual.
Oh yeah... forgot to mention about shootin' the moon from a car window...
I once shot the moon against the cockpit window 2000 feet above the Quang Tri river at a wingman. Good thing I was a lot smaller and lighter then. Now couldn't twist around so easily.
boneman,

That's kinda a disturbing image. I do love the full moon, but, it disturbs my dreams.
Jean, delightful imagery.
Oh, I really, REALLY love you folks!! Really. hehehe...
I fear I may be having dreams of everyone's naked butts. Sticking to windows, dancing in a field... thank you. heh.
Wow. I just looked outside and saw four moons...
Those are girl butts.
I want boy butts. Well, men butts.
:)
All men are butts...
Oh... I almost forgot.
Silly me.
